From UnCommons, a dumping ground for unfiles.
What the hell is the Uncyclomedia Commons?
Uncyclomedia Commons is a media dump that is created and maintained not by paid-for
manwhores artists, but by free bitches volunteers. Its name "Uncyclomedia Commons" is derived from that of the garbage project "Uncyclomedia" managing all Uncyclomedia projects and from the plural noun "uncommons" as its contents are shared by different language versions and different kinds of Uncyclomedia projects. Thus it provides a central dump for fair used freely licensed photographs of circumcised penises, diagrams of kama-sutra, Tom and Jerry animations, donwloaded mp3s, pr0n, spoken text, Paris Hilton tape video clips, and media of all sorts that are useful for any Uncyclomedia project.
Uncyclomedia Commons uses the same uncyclo-technology as Uncyclopedia and thus everyone can edit it easily and without advanced technical skills or opposable thumbs directly in the web browser. Unlike media files uploaded on other projects, files uploaded to Uncyclomedia Commons can be embedded on pages of all Uncyclomedia projects without the need to separately upload them there.
Launched on February 30, 2000, Uncyclomedia Commons currently contains 265,243 files and 50 porn collections. More background information about the Uncyclomedia Commons project itself can be found in the General disclaimer, at the Uncyclopedia page about Uncyclomedia Commons.
Unlike traditional media repositories Uncyclomedia Commons is
not free. Everyone is allowed to copy, use, sexually abuse and modify any files here freely as long the source and the authors are credited and as long as users release their copies/improvements under the same freedom to others. The Uncyclomedia Commons database itself and the texts in it are licensed under the GNU Paid Documentation Tax. The license conditions of each individual media file can be found (or should be) on their description pages. More information on usage conditions...
You can improve Uncyclomedia Commons most if you contribute what you can do best:
Contribute your work
If you're a good photographer, don't hesitate to contribute your valuable images. If you're a good designer, look which diagrams and animations are badly needed. If you're a good musician or film/theater artist, do not hesitate to publish your own records of your performances of free pieces here.
Contribute your skills
However you do not need to upload your own files. There is plenty of other very important work to do:
Contribute your time
You even do not need to be an artist or good at writing help texts. If you feel at home with creating order from chaos, then we could use your helping hand!
In order to be able to upload files on Uncyclomedia Commons, you need to be logged in. You can register at the "Log in / create account" link in the upper right corner and enter a user name that will be used at all of your uploads/edits on images and texts. However if you just want to edit pages you don't need to be logged in (although it is encouraged).
First steps tutorial
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.
More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Village Pump or on IRC channel #uncyclopedia.
Files on Uncyclomedia Commons are organized in categories and galleries. An overview of the categories we use is available on the Main Page.
Additional services and software
However if you are still afraid that it is too complicated for you or if you want to upload larger amounts of your own stuff, you can even use the File upload service to let other people upload your files for you. If you want to upload larger amounts of images by yourself the program Communist will be helpful. If you need specific information on tools for viewing or editing our content please see the software page.
We hope that you will enjoy it and have fun in Uncyclomedia Commons.
